Every year Halloween decorations inside and outside the home seem to be more and more elaborate we have inflatable ghouls, light-up decorations, lights, scary music and effects. Which is all lots of fun but can hide a series of electrical hazards. This Halloween by simply following some simple safety advice you can make sure all the scares are fun and not dangerous.
Check Lights Wiring
Once you have dug out the old box of Halloween lights make sure before you put them up with Check thoroughly that string is not damaged, look for signs of wear or tear, any exposed wiring and finally check for any Cracked missing or broken lights. if in doubt do not use.
Extension Cables
Make sure all extension cords are in good condition and have the appropriate wattage to handle it will be plugged in, out of my traffic areas as this may cause a tripping hazard, secure in place with tape screw or nail extension cord down. if using outside make sure it is not going to be exposed to damp areas or will become wet if it rains.
Take care not to overload extension cords or circuit breakers or fuses.
Decorations
Take time to read through all of the manufacturer’s instructions before putting up decorations, and be sure you use them in accordance. Always use in a well-ventilated area, protected from weather, avoid overheating, only use decorations outdoors that are designed for outside use.
Flammable Items
Take care to keep all flammable items away from sources of heat that could cause a fire Hazard, many of the costumes and decorations used for Halloween are highly flammable. Also, take care of decorations that contain batteries as these could also overheat.
Keep all walkways well lit and well ventilated to avoid accidents. And the last but most important tip is to make sure all candles are extinguished and every decoration is unplugged or turned off before you go out for the evening or go to bed.
